Sheila Akpabor from Nigeria is studying International Trade Law at the University of the West of England (UWE). Here she tell us about her reasons for moving to the UK and why she decided to study at UWE Bristol.
“I decided to undertake a postgraduate study to enhance my career, achieve my goals in life, gain more knowledge and also learn more about international business and the globalising world.
Before making the decision to study at UWE I was practicing corporate law as a Legal Adviser and a Professional Negotiator and Mediator in Nigeria. I am interested in Maritime Law, International Law and have always wanted to be involved with international dispute. However, I have always been interested in Information Technology Law as well. As a result I decided to apply for International Trade Law at UWE.
My reason for moving to Bristol was because I genuinely loved and wanted to study at UWE. If UWE was in a different city I would probably be there instead! However, I have found Bristol to be a very friendly city, with lovely people, who welcome international students. I would definitely recommend it.
I can wholeheartedly say that I enjoy everything about my course. The content suits my interests perfectly and the library and other facilities are brilliant. The staff and tutors in UWE Law School have been very supportive, kind and welcoming, and are always willing to help.
Since starting the course I have grown more confident in expressing my ideas and understanding the way people live, think and deal with life. I am sure that my time studying at UWE will help me greatly as I strive hard to become a legal Adviser in an International Organisation, a multinational Organisation and beyond!”
